Profile
Hello my name is Simon, I was born in Liverpool in 1969, but moved to Oxford in 1998. I've been painting for approximately 25 years now (on and off). My style has changed considerably from my earlier period when I was doing more portraiture. I have now developed a more abstract style, particularly by using mosaic (stained glass, colour-block type effects) and I am more an impressionist now than I was beforehand. I also have switched mediums from using oil paints to acrylics. I like the acrylic paints because they tend to be brighter and dry a lot quicker than oils ever did and the painting process also can be speeded up. I like the interplay of colours, particularly bright, vibrant colours and this is seen in a lot of my newer works (on display for sale such as The bird with the orange head, chaos and order and daphne). My influences tend to be many of the French impressionists such as Monet, Renoir and more modern painters such as Braque and Mattisse. I hope you like what you see and if you're interested please drop me a mail, buy the picture or if you would like a commission please get in touch. Thank you for your time and interest. Simon Rutterford (2008)
