Profile
Paul Guyer was born and raised in Sacramento and studied art at David Lubin, Kit Carson and Sac High. He is an unemployed engineer and architect whose Sacramento CityScapes provide a snapshot of The City from the 1940s to the present. His contemporary pieces are painted from photos he takes wandering around Downtown and in Midtown, and sometimes in East Sac and Land Park. His “retro” pieces are painted from vintage photos he comes across now and then. His latest show features a number of revered Sactown Dive Bars. His works are distinguished by their faithful attention to the “urban furniture”; the fire plugs, telephone wires and newspaper racks that people subconsciously filter out and don’t really “see” when they walk around. He is a graduate of Stanford University, went to McGeorge for a while, and lives in El Macero.
