Profile
I was born in Hofuf, Saudi Arabia 1956. Immigrated to the USA 1997 and gained a Master of Fine Art from Minneapolis College of Art and Design 2002. My art work explores Arab social belief systems, especially those dealing with women, sexuality and the other. I use calligraphy, Arabic geometric patterns, Islamic architecture, henna and stylized figurative drawing. I investigate the status of contemporary Arab art, its independence from Western art and its distinction from other Middle Eastern and Islamic identities. My medium is a mixture of drawing, silkscreening and installation. I silk screen images on large sheets of canvas and make architectural space out of them. My spaces are usually divided into several rooms and contains sculpture, rugs and other artifacts. More recently I started making murals and I am liking it.
