Profile
Born in Elvas Portugal in 1945. Becomes Architect at Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa in 1970. On a Japanese Gov. grant goes to Japan for 3 years to study wood architecture. In 72 falls in love with ceramics and shows in Japan. In 75 in Brazil starts a group studio that is the embrio of today's Ceramics Town of Cunha, a Brazilian "Machiko yaki". In 1987 goes back to Portugal to put up and start, the Ceramics Dpt. of AR.CO a private art school in Lisbon. In 1990 goes back to Japan on a Japan Foundation fellowship and does and shows ceramics till 1995. In 1993 is one of a group who puts up KIDI, Kanazawa International Design Institute, the Japanese affiliate school of NY Parsons School of Design. There he teaches and develops the programs of Humanities, Technical Drawing and Digital Design till 2002, as Foundation Chair, the last 3 years. Since 2002 back to Brazil and to ceramics, working and teaching at his studio "Atelier do Antigo Matadouro" in Cunha. Continues doing projects in Rural Neo-Vernacular Architecture and Digital Design.
