Learning patience - in painting, it takes much patience. It is a matter of the independence of our powers of seeing and thinking. When I paint I look for a working balance between spontaneity and control. Planning and conscious thought takes me a short distance. Then, early in the process, the painting begins to have a life of its own. In this approach to painting, the creative process becomes an event. And, for me, artistic expression begins with the humble acceptance of the human condition - sensing my true reality; sensing what I want, what I deeply feel, and what truly raises my interest. This is both my beginning and my end.
