Profile
For all my life, I have looked at life from different perspectives. I have always taken inspiration from reality to create my own dynamics. In the reality which surrounds us there are so many visual things that people simply see. However, they do not necessarily notice everything, but just gain a general impression. I especially pay attention to the things that are often neglected or are not recognised as aesthetically pleasing and are therefore considered not worthy of being the centre of attention. For example, I look at a collection of objects lying on top of one another or next to each other, such as buildings and cities, the details of which are often overlooked and neglected. All these things have been created by man but have been largely ignored; they are there, but people do not see them. I find, feel and see all these things and believe that, by using the special language of my medium (painting), using symbols and a range of other techniques, I can enhance their visibility by re-creating them in my own, individual way. I realised I ought to study fine art when, for four years, I was a student at Eskisehir Anatolia University, in the Faculty of Fine Art, Department of Painting. Having successfully completed the course, I opened my own art studio. I was specialising in the interior design of houses (especially nursery room design), artistic wall painting and teaching painting to children and adults. I really did enjoy interior designing. I tried to improve by myself but I could see that I needed assistance to develop my techniques sufficiently to become a good interior designer. I feel I am fortunate in that I have Turkish culture to draw on. This is a rich heritage of history and art (Greek, Roman, Byzantine, African, Arabic and, of course, Ottoman). Each city in Turkey has a wealth of wonderful objects, textures and relics. It would be my pleasure to share with others the detail of my culture while, at the same time, learning about other cultures through art. Indeed, a large part of my motivation for coming to England was my desire to absorb more of the culture of Western Europe by exposure to its art. During my time in England, I have developed a love of English architecture and art. I am particularly impressed by gothic churches and towers. Also, I am fascinated by interiors which present a fusion of traditional and modern, and this has a major impact on my art. After two years, I returned to my country – to Istanbul. I was working as a fashion designer for a prestigious fashion company. I really enjoyed the opportunity to explore the use of fabrics in the creation of garments. It was a very valuable experience; the fashion design introduced new ideas to my art. I had to give up my job when I married an Englishman, then moved back to England, but, for the past four years, interior design has been my main interest, and I have researched it thoroughly. However, I lived in Dubai for a 1 year. I came back to UK tree weeks ago. Dubai is an architect’s and interior designer’s dream. It also greatly inspired me. I know my artistic eyes could not stop gazing and finding creative inspiration. It is also important that an artist learns and constantly improves his or her knowledge by creating an individual style, which I believe I have. Wherever I do, what I do, I will always be an observer, which is a key factor in design. I love all aspects of art and design – drawing; painting; interior design; fashion design. I cannot imagine living without art. I like employing techniques and forms which have not been used before, and I love the challenge of creating my own style. My aim in exploring such techniques is to present objects in a way which transcends time, and I believe only painting and design could give me the artistic fulfilment that I desire.
