Profile
My name is Annette Foat. I am a figurative artist. I work with acrylics, oils and pastels. I am a Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design alumni and I have been in a variety of group shows and had a couple of solo shows. This series of paintings is called "modern man is in search of his soul". My paintings are about color, light, and the figure. I'm trying to bring all the pictorial complexities down to a very basic cognitive thing. The figure is broken down to the most simpliest form and becomes very abstruse when it interplays with the effect of light and shadows. The space is as minimal as the figure and thus we become aware of the play of two and three dimensional space. Color acts as both space and light. I am reluctant to clearly define the figure because I'm more interested in the light that transends us or that is within us. I think we try to look beyond the rational and intellectual for something that defies all our expectations. In our soul searching we hope to find something that defines us or unites us. This is my poetic interpetation.
