A native of North Augusta, South Carolina, Melchus Davis earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina and his Master of Arts from Trinity College in Washington, DC. He has taught in the Visual Arts Department at Howard University, and currently teaches at the Duke Ellington School of Fine Arts. Working primarily in water colors and oils, Mr. Davis has exhibited his paintings at numerous galleries in the Washington, DC area. His works have also been exhibited at the Malcolm Brown Gallery in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and at the United States Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa as part of the State Department’s Art in Embassies program. Bar Scene, done in acrylic on paper, began as a demonstration in a class he was teaching and turned out so well, Mr. Davis decided to complete it. That is why it is signed and dated twice!
