Rare opportunity to purchase this elegant and minimal abstract oil painting entitled "Have and Have Not" (c. 1998) by New York artist Bill Jensen at a price significantly below its market value. The current owner is moving and downsizing and is willing to sell at a sizable discount. Large and dramatic, the work measures 53"(H) x 40"(W) and was purchased new in September, 1998, from the Mary Boone Gallery in New York City (original invoice available). The painting is signed and dated by the artist on the back of the canvas. Over his thirty-year career, Jensen's art has been associated with works by early American modernists such as Arthur Dove, Jasper Johns and Robert Ryman. His paintings often evoke a minimalist landscape where color, form and space collide on the canvas. Jensen mixes the paints himself and uses a wide variety of tools with which to spread, brush, smooth out and wipe away his paint resulting in varied, highly textured surfaces. His colors are saturated and have a wonderful clarity, vibrating with an aura-like intensity. Bill Jensen's work is undergoing a surge in public interest with well received and critically acclaimed shows recently held at the Acme Gallery in Los Angeles and at the Danese Gallery in New York. His works are held by major museums and in important private collections around the world.
