The Artwork:
Moose ... with new growth antlers ... feeding.
Although it is intended for interior display, it can be set on the patio or in the garden. This is the largest wildlife, in marble, I have done to date. ( I recently finished a blue heron in granite that is larger ). The new growth antlers are an attempt to avoid too fragile a work and also lend themselves to a slightly stylised feel, even though the animal is done in realist style. The polish on the antlers gives this affect quite nicely.
The marble used for this carving comes from a quarry where it is being cut for counter tops. The mottled mix of colours is quite striking in itself. The chrystaline nature of the stone makes it hard to work with, but the affect is worth it. I don't think my pictures show the beauty of the marble very well.
